Vena’s Fizz House opened in Portland, Maine, in the summer of 2013 as a non-alcholic seltzer-based bar. It was named after the owner’s great-grandmother, a member of the Maine Women’s Christian Temperance Movement back in the 1920s, who was “committed to curtailing the liquid sins of the day.”
Although Vena’s Fizz House has since added liquor to the menu, they continue to specialize in seltzer drinks both old and new, like their original Lumber Jack Love. It’s described as tasting like “a lemonade you are drinking in a pine forest,” and “like gin, without the gin.”
Try it out and see what you think, if you dare:
Lumber Jack Love
- 1 ounce Dram Pine Syrup
- 1 ounce squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 ounce Wilks & Wilson Sir Teddy’s Tonic
- 5 drops Alpine Herb Bitters (SF Bitters Co)
- 5 drops Wormwood Bitters (Cocktail Kingdom)
- ice, seltzer
Mix it up in a 16-ounce mason jar.
